Documents Required to Register for ABQ CDL Program:

Current Driver’s License
- You must have a valid driver’s license to register!
- Do not let the MVD take your driver’s license or hole punch your driver’s license!

You must submit all documents to register for an ABQ CDL Program!

DOT MEDICAL CARD

DOT Medical Card is confirms that you are healthy enough to safely perform the demanding job of a Commerical driver
Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination must be conducted by a licensed “medical examiner” listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry
Once you have passed the physical examination, the medical examiner will issue a Medical Examiner’s Certificate
DOT Medical Card is required to obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit

You must have a valid Commercial Learner’s Permit to register for classes
Commercial Learner’s Permits are issued at the MVD once you have passed the mandatory written tests
You must study the New Mexico CDL Manual to pass the knowledge tests and obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit: Commercial Driver’s License Manual
- Class A Students must take the following tests:
  - General Knowledge: Chapters 1, 2, 3
  - Air Brakes: Chapter 5
  - Combinations: Chapter 6
- Class B Students must take the following tests:
  - General Knowledge: Chapter 1, 2, 3
  - Air Brakes: Chapter 5
- Passenger Endorsement Students must take the following tests:
  - General Knowledge: Chapter 1, 2, 3
  - Passenger Vehicles: Chapter 4
  - Air Brakes: Chapter 5
You must take your Real ID Documents with you to the MVD:

You must make an appointment to take the written tests at the MVD and obtain the Commercial Learner’s Permit:
- NM MVD Direct Appointments
- Make an appointment for Written Tests (Learner’s Permit, CDL Permit, First Time Driver)

We offer FREE Commercial Learner’s Permit Prep Classes once a month! Classes are on Tuesday and Wednesday; 8:00am – 5:00pm each day.
